research

We are leaders in the design, construction and fit-out of cleanrooms, SPF, PC2, PC3 and PC4 facilities, laboratories, pharmaceutical R&D facilities and animal facilities. We engage specialist consultants and regulatory authorities to help us deliver complete, commissioned facilities that are certified ready for use.

bioscience research centre (BRC)

This BRC project is the result of a joint venture between the Victorian Government and LaTrobe University to create one of Australia's premier bioscience facilities. The research centre based at LaTrobe's Bundoora campus will be equipped to house cutting-edge research aimed at supporting and protecting Victoria's $11.8 billion agricultural sector. Grocon engaged Wilkore as a specialist contractor to construct the PC2 and PC3 facilities. This includes the installation of the walls, ceilings, flooring and joinery. This complex project has a tight delivery programme for almost 20,000m² of floor area. The project involves construction of one of only four PC3 glasshouses in the world. Wilkore have been engaged to ensure that this project meets the stringent AQIS and OGTR regulations, as well as the 5 star Greenstar rating of the project.

Victorian infectious diseases reference laboratory (VIDRL)

VIDRL is a WHO Collaborating Centre for Reference and Research on Influenza – one of only four in the world. This laboratory, based in North Melbourne, is at the forefront of influenza research and vaccine development.

As part of a significant refit, Wilkore converted the basement carpark, utility area and a section of office from an old woolstore into PC2 and PC3 containment facilities. There were many construction challenges associated with the building such as uneven floors, low ceilings and large cylindrical columns with conical column caps. The containment facilities have the ability to allow individual suite fumigation, while adjacent suites can still operate. The walls and ceilings were constructed utilizing the Dagard Cleanroom Panel System with sealing details developed by Wilkore. We were responsible for ensuring that all penetrations were installed and sealed correctly, and we had the ultimate responsibility of assuring a seamless and incident-free commissioning and accreditation period.
